Convergence: The International Research into New Media Technologies

Using interviews with a selection of key players in the media, this is a timely look at how British news websites are embracing multimedia such as video, podcasts, and Flash.

The key findings were presented at the 9th International Online Journalism Symposium in Austin, Texas, USA, where it won ‘best paper’. An edited version of the presentation was published in the
Press Gazette, with further coverage by reportr.net, journalism.co.uk and Science Daily.

British Council Japan: Football Culture

These were a series of articles about the world of football. The site was designed for Japanese readers who had a limited knowledge of Premiership and European football. The style and language used had to be relatively simple as the stories were translated into Japanese and Korean.

The articles I wrote ranged from footballer profiles and match reports to issues off the pitch.

This is a travel article written for a quarterly lifestyle magazine published in Tokyo, Japan. The feature is about spiritualists - who claim to be able to talk to the dead - that live on top of a volcanic mountain in northern Japan. The story (plus photographs) was published exclusively in the magazine.

Unrequited Love is a feature about the weird world of Takarazuka - a popular Japanese musical revue. It was written for a national expat magazine based in Osaka, Japan. The article (and photos) was published in both the magazine and online.
